Who operates this site
Lavaca Tax Protest is an independent taxpayer initiative, not a Lavaca County or LCCAD website. Website organizers manage the interest forms. The Law Offices of Trent Nichols, PLLC handles legal representation and the signing documents. Shiner Ops provides technical support for the website.
For privacy questions or requests, email info@lavacataxprotest.org. This address is shared with the organizers and legal team. Do not use the plaintiff signup form for a privacy request; submitting that form can generate a signing invitation.
What we collect and why
- Interest forms: your name, physical and mailing addresses, email, telephone number, property locations, message, submission time and the version of the notice you accepted. We use this to follow up and prepare the documents you request.
- Signing records: your packet details, typed signatures and initials, document versions and hashes, consent text, signing times, browser information and a coded internet address. These records document what was signed and help detect changes. The private email link controls access; this is not a government-ID verification service.
- Security and delivery: temporary session cookies, coded internet addresses used to limit abuse, and email delivery, bounce and provider activity records. Hosting and email providers may process internet addresses and technical logs to deliver and protect their services.
- Optional analytics: if you allow it, Google Analytics receives public page views, browser and device information, approximate location, scroll events and outbound link domains. Internet addresses reach Google as part of the connection. We do not send form answers, names, email addresses, property details, signing tokens or URL query strings to analytics.
Please do not send Social Security numbers, identification documents, financial account numbers or confidential legal details through the interest form or shared inbox.
Who receives information
Authorized website administrators, organizers and the legal team can access information needed for their work. Service providers include Bluehost for hosting, Brevo for signing emails, Google Drive for restricted completed-document storage, and Google Analytics when you choose to allow it. Cloudflare provides domain and DNS services. Providers process information under their own applicable terms and privacy policies.
We do not sell or rent your personal information or use it for targeted advertising. We do not publish your signup details; the public counter shows only a total. Legal filings may become public if you participate in the case. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect the service and address fraud.
Cookies and your choice
Essential storage: the lavaca_session cookie protects forms and private signing sessions. The browser normally removes it when the session ends. We store your cookie choice in this browser for up to 180 days. These features are separate from analytics.
Optional storage: Google Analytics uses cookies whose names begin with _ga. We request a 180-day lifetime. They are used only after you select “Allow analytics.” Selecting “Essential only,” withdrawing consent, or sending a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal prevents analytics from loading. Withdrawing consent also removes this site's accessible analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop the loaded tracker. It does not erase information already received by Google.
You can decline analytics and still read, submit the interest form and sign. Signing and management pages never load analytics. Choices apply to this browser; make them separately on other browsers or devices. We use no advertising pixels or session replay tools. Social sharing buttons are ordinary links, not embedded social trackers; the destination site's privacy policy applies after you follow a link.
Retention and security
Submissions and signing records are kept in restricted website storage, with backups. Completed signing records are also saved to restricted Google Drive storage. The form's anti-spam records are removed on the next submission after they become 24 hours old; link-opening rate-limit records are cleared after an hour when the next link is opened. Signing audit records are retained with the agreement.
Legal records may need to be preserved for the case, professional obligations, disputes or a legal hold. Contact us about records that are no longer needed. Deletion from active storage may not immediately remove a record from protected backup copies; those copies are retained and replaced through the backup process. We use encrypted connections, access restrictions and encrypted backups, but cannot promise that any system is risk-free.
Access, corrections and deletion requests
Email info@lavacataxprotest.org with “Privacy request” in the subject and describe whether you want access, a copy, a correction, deletion or to stop optional contact. Use the email address associated with your submission where possible. We may verify your identity before disclosing or changing records. Do not attach identity documents unless the legal team arranges a secure way to provide them.
We will review your request, explain any legal reason that prevents a requested deletion, and provide a way to ask us to reconsider a denial. To appeal, reply with “Privacy appeal.” These requests do not cancel a signed agreement or a court filing; discuss those matters with the firm. If a privacy law applies to your request, its rights and deadlines remain in effect. You may also contact the Texas Attorney General about privacy concerns.
Children and changes to this notice
The interest form and signing process are intended for adults. Children under 13 should not submit personal information. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us so we can review and address it. An adult acting for a minor should speak with the firm before providing the minor's details.
We will post changes here with a new effective date. A material change in how information is used may require an additional notice or choice before that new use.
